Do I need to register?

If you only want to look at the pictures in the photo album, there is no need to register, or to log in if you are already registered. Anyone is welcome to enjoy the pictures at any time without obligation.

If you do decide to register however, there are several benefits. These include the ability to Upload and Download photo album pictures and the ability to create a private collection "lightbox" of your favorite pictures. As a registered user, you will also be able to add comments for pictures uploaded by others and edit the title and comments of your own pictures. You will also be able to send E-cards (like a postcard sent by email) featuring pictures from the photo album, to your friends.

There is no charge for registration and we don't use your name or email address for any nefarious purposes. You will not receive spam as a result of registering, nor will your friends to whom you send E-cards.

How do I register?

On the left side of the screen, below the Log In button are several links. Locate and click on the link labeled Registration. This will take you to a screen that explains the Terms of Service. If you understand and accept the Terms of Service, click on the Agree button at the bottom of the page. This will take you to a fill-in form where you tell us who you are, select a password and provide an email address.

The reason that we ask for your name is primarily so that we'll be able to assign the proper photo credit to pictures that you upload. The email address is used to confirm your registration. We promise not to use it to send you spam or to give it away or sell it anybody else.

Once you have filled in all of the fields, click Submit to complete your registration. The system will automatically send you an email at the address you provided. This should arrive within a matter of minutes. When the email does arrive, simply click on the link in the email to confirm that it was you who registered. That will automatically take you back to the photo album where you can now log in with your name and password.

How do I upload pictures?

Before you can upload pictures, you must be registerd and be logged in. Once logged in, you need to pick the category that you want to upload your picture to. There are major categories for each year (for example 2005) and then sub-categories under each of those for specific activities, like Bike Light Parade. When you first log in, you should see a list of categories that you can click on. If you are in some other page, and want to get back to the list of categories, look in the upper left corner and you should see a link for Home. Just click on Home to get back to the main category page.

If you have a picture that fits in one of the named sub-categories, then select that category. If it is just a general picture from a given year, then select the major "year" category. For example, pictures of people in their campsites don't really fit into any of the activity categories, so they should go in something like the 2005 category.

Once you have selected the category, look near the upper right corner of the screen and you should see a button labeled Upload. That button is there all the time, but it is greyed out so it doesn't work and the label isn't really legible unless you are logged in.

Click on the Upload button and you will be taken to a fill-in form. Notice the numbers just to the left of the fill-in fields. Those numbers descibe the maximum height and width and file size for photos to be uploaded. These limits are in place to help keep the photo album from consuming too much disk space and also to make sure that photos don't take too long to download. If your pictures are larger than these values, you'll need to resize them first using a photo editor. Some pictures in the photo album, such as the large panoramas are larger than these limites, but those can only be uploaded by the photo album administrator. If you have such a picture, please contact the administrator for help. Most pictures in the photo album fall somewhere between 640x480 pixels and 800x600 pixels.

Click the Browse... button on the Upload page to open a directory browser that will let you find the picture file on your computer. Once you have selected the picture file in the menu window, click on Open and the path to the picture file will appear in the box next to the Browse button. Below that are two more boxes where you can fill in the name that you want the picture to have, and a description of what the picture is. When you have filled that in, click the Submit button below the comment box and the picture will be uploaded.

You won't be able to see the picture on-line until the website administrator a chance to OK it, but that usually happens fairly quickly.
